GAMES THAT NEVER WERE!

Many times a game is started, then never finished. The reasons the game isn't finished is typically due to other projects that take away time from it, so that the game is put on the shelf and forgotten. In some cases the game was not finished because it was part of a series, and we wanted to continue the series in some other way.

Here you can find, to download for your own amusement, the intros from three games which were started, but never finished. Download them at the risk of annoying yourself, because these games are not playable and probably never will be.

Brian vs. the Future

Brian vs. the Future

Brian vs. the Future was going to be a game created by Brian Quarfoth and featuring "Brian", like the games Alien Hunt and Brian vs. the Aliens, except on a much larger scale. It was going to feature a humorous intro and cinema sequences and numerous areas for Brian to explore, in a run and jump sidescrolling fashion. It was going to feature a save game function which was a big deal at the time because none of our games had one at that point.

Well, Brian Quarfoth made the intro, which everybody liked and encouraged him to continue making the game, but then got really lazy so that not even one level of the game was finished. Dozens of characters were drawn for this game, however, and some of them can now be seen in Brian vs. the Aliens: Special Edition. Interestingly, the game's plot would have been based on a weird dream that Brian Quarfoth had. Despite the fact that there is a "Garth" character, every voice here was done by Brian Quarfoth.

Pac-Guy: Castle of Illusion

Pac-Guy:Castle of Illusion

Pac-Guy: Castle of Illusion was intended to be the sequel to Pac-Guy 2, Part 2:Pagoon. In it two nasties from Pac-Guy: Resurrection break into Pac-Guy's house while he is sleeping and hook him up to a device that allows them to control his dreams and thus defeat him - somehow. This was originally going to be a 12 or less level freeware Pac-Guy game.

As this game was being made, however, it just kept expanding and expanding, so it was getting too big to be freeware. Also, Jerry Belich decided that he wanted this game to feature Pacula. Another problem with this game would have been that it outright ignores the cliffhanger ending in Pagoon, which probably would have annoyed a lot of people. This is why we just decided to make Pacula's Curse instead. In fact, some levels in Pacula's Curse are modified levels that were originally intended for this game.

Planetoid of the Simians

Planetoid of the Simians

Planetoid of the Simians was intended to be the sequel to the game Two Tail. It would have been overall a similar game, with better graphics and more levels, though would probably have focused more on the puzzle solving than the action sequences. The plotline would have had Two Tail fly in a spaceship to a planetoid populated by ape-people (just like Spegroon is populated by lizard-people) in a quest to find Doctor Naughty. One interesting element in the game would have been that none of the apes would speak English until you learned their language or found a translator.

This game was started the same summer as Pac Pack was sold, and the same summer as Pacula's Curse was being started. At the time, the Pac-Guy series of games was a big hit, so we decided to continue them, rather than sequelize Two Tail. In retrospect, given that no Pac-Guy game since Pac Pack has a big hit, we probably should have made this game instead, but today, if a new Two Tail were to be made, it almost certainly would have 3D graphics and be entirely puzzle solving. Despite the claim by this game's credits, every voice here was done by Garth Thompson.
