PAC PACK FAQ

Why has Pac Pack been removed?

The game "Pac Pack" has been discontinued because of its similarity to Pac-Man. No legal action was taken against us by Hasbro Interactive (the company that purchased the legal rights to Pac-Man), we have just decided to take the high road in this matter to prevent possible trouble in the future.

When we created the Pac-Guy series of games and Pac Pack we were careful not to use any of Hasbro Interactive's copyrighted images from Pac-Man nor the copyrighted words "Pac-Man". We also made it clear that the game was a parody/satire and not a remake. This was to prevent us from being sued, and we were not sued, rather eGames was sued for their game "3D Maze Man" and the resulting fear caused "Pac Pack" to be pulled from store shelves, despite the fact that no legal action was taken against us or our publisher ValuSoft. In other words rather than take legal action against Astral Entertainment that they could have lost, Hasbro Interactive used scare tactics to get "Pac Pack" out of stores.

After several months we were able to get ValuSoft to drop the license for "Pac Pack" so we could sell it on our own on the internet. However internet sales, while decent, were nowhere near where in-stores sales were. And having "Pac Pack" on the website proved a liability because, even though it didn't use any of the Pac-Man treademarks it could be argued that someone would purchase it instead of a licensed Pac-Man product and then not purchase that product.

Also apparently Hasbro Interactive has begun selling a product called "Ultimate Pac Pack". This would appear to be an infrigement upon "Pac Pack" which is copyrighted by ValuSoft and Astral Entertainment, a deliberate attempt to make it seem that their product is related to my company's popular product that they had removed from stores. This is not legal on their part, but like I stated previously we are taking the high road out of this, which includes not taking any legal action against Hasbro Interactive.

Where can I get the games if you're not selling Pac Pack anymore?

First, 5 of the 10 games have always been freeware. We aren't removing them because they aren't making any money and it's nearly impossible to get freeware off the internet anyway. To get them please visit Fun Free Games and download every "Pac-Guy" game.

Second, you should purchase Pacula's Curse, Vengeance or Bust and R.I.Pea-Guy. "Pacula's Curse" and "Vengeance or Bust" have a similar style of gameplay as the games that were on "Pac Pack", but they improve it on every level. "R.I.Pea-Guy" includes many different things, some of which are lost Pac-Guy adventures, and some of which are Pea-Guy updates of the better games on "Pac Pack", updates that were originally made for the never-released "Pacula's Curse 2nd Edition". All of these collections have demos you can download and try for free.

Third, subscribe to the Pea-Guy newsletter to be notified of future updates in the series.

When will "Pacula's Curse 2nd Edition" be released?

Unfortunately sales of Pacula's Curse were nowhere near high enough to justify releasing a second edition, so this project has been abandoned. You can get everything that was made for 2nd edition if you purchase R.I.Pea-Guy, however it doesn't include all of "Pacula's Curse" because only the first half was converted.

Is Pac Pack abandonware?

No! As stated previously many of the games and other elements from "Pac Pack" have been re-used in commercial games we are currently selling. If we catch anyone posting "Pac Pack" games to abandonware or other websites we will prosecute them for pirating the software.

Will warranty replacements still be honored?

Yes, if your copy of Pac Pack is damaged we will still send you a replacement CD. The only thing you will notice is that the label on the replacement CD isn't as pretty, but the games on the CD will be the same.
